Sri Lanka, April 10 — A 40-foot container filled with vital emergency response and life-saving equipment has arrived in Sri Lanka thanks to the assistance of Australia’s population, the life-saving community, Life-Saving Victoria (LSV), and logistics company Transco Cargo. The shipment, containing life jackets, rescue tubes, rescue boards, and other crucial tools for first responders, was transferred to Sri Lanka Life Saving (SLLS) for nationwide deployment.

The equipment will be exclusively utilized for humanitarian objectives, aiming to improve disaster response effectiveness in regions impacted by cyclones and other at-risk communities. It is anticipated to greatly boost readiness and reaction abilities, especially in rural and high-risk zones.

The transfer of responsibilities took place at the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), attended by various guests, among them Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Matthew Duckworth and DMC’s Director General Major General (Retd) Sampath Kotuwegoda.

Speaking to the audience, the High Commissioner highlighted the common dedication of Australia and Sri Lanka towards saving lives and preventing drowning. He mentioned that the collaboration between Surf Life-Saving Australia and Sri Lanka Life-Saving keeps making a significant difference, especially in enhancing public safety in coastal and inland water areas and aiding emergency efforts during floods and cyclones.
