- Jockey Shane McGovern found himself pinned under a horse
- He faces the possibility of losing his legs.
A QueenslandA jockey might lose his legs following an incident where he was found pinned beneath a deceased horse, six hours after the animal fell.
Shane McGovern, aged 67, was riding the nine-year-old gelding Reformist during a regular training session on Wednesday in the rural community of Charters Towers, located 136 kilometers southwest of Townsville.
However, Reformist is believed to have experienced an aneurysm, collapsing onto the country jockey, which resulted in his legs being trapped and his blood flow being restricted.
He was discovered by his wife, Kim, six hours later.
“I thought ‘well, that’s Shane, he’ll just take off for a ride,’ which is what he does because the horse was meant to race on Monday,” she said.Racenet on Friday.
But I’m truly regretting it, and this is something I’ll never forget.
And suddenly, this creepy little arm rises, and he says, ‘I’m fine.’
Mr. McGovern is currently in a medically induced coma at Townsville Hospital, as reported by Kevin Ring, the health and safety officer from the Australian Jockeys’ Association.

The official told Racenet, ‘He was unable to move his legs, which naturally impacted his blood circulation and resulted in nerve damage as well.’
It is possible that he could lose one or both legs.
Mr. McGovern has had an operation, and his lower leg regions are still under observation because there is a risk he might experience an infection or damage to the tissue.
“He was aware, but they’ve given him strong medications, and he’s experiencing hallucinations along with some hyperventilation,” his wife Kim added.
They knocked him back into an induced coma, reinserted the breathing tube to allow his body some rest, and they will maintain this state for a few days.
