Tensions between U.S. President Donald Trump and prominent members of the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement are reaching a critical stage. Individuals from the MAGA group who played a role in Trump’s recent return to the White House have expressed disapproval of his involvement in global conflicts, leading to growing friction. The divide has become unbridgeable after the U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran.

On the 9th, Trump expressed strong disapproval on his social media platform, focusing on media figures and influencers who support the MAGA movement, such as Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones. He specifically mentioned them, stating, “I understand why these individuals believe it’s beneficial for Iran, the top state sponsor of terrorism, to possess nuclear weapons. It’s because they have one thing in common: a low IQ. They are foolish.”

These numbers were crucial in Trump’s re-election due to different opinion campaigns throughout the most recent presidential election, yet they have always been against U.S. involvement in international matters. They specifically condemned the U.S. military action against Iran, which started on February 28th, as going against the “America First” policy.

Trump stated, “They were all removed from television, lost their programs, and now aren’t even being asked to return,” referring to them as “crazies and troublemakers.” The MAGA figures that Trump criticized generally believe he gave in to pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and deployed troops to areas not aligned with U.S. interests. As the conflict escalates, their criticism of Trump has become more intense.

Candace Owens, a YouTuber who has around 6 million followers, criticized Trump on the 7th for referring to “civilization destruction” regarding Iran, labeling him a “mad mass murderer” and pushing for the use of the 25th Amendment to transfer presidential power to the vice president and cabinet. Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host who holds significant sway within the MAGA movement, also denounced Trump’s actions as “disgusting in every respect,” adding, “Trump openly rejects the biblical principles that set boundaries on human conduct. I can’t stand by him.”

This dispute is increasing the divide between conventional Republican voters, who are weary of the conflict in Iran, and Trump, who is now seen as a detrimental element in the upcoming November midterm elections. Inside the Republican Party, rising fears of losing control of Congress have led to increased frustration with Trump. A CNN-SSRS survey shows that Trump’s approval rating is at 35%, approaching a record low, with robust backing from Republicans decreasing from 52% in January to 43%, a drop of 9 percentage points. Certain Republican representatives are warning, “We will not support further military actions without congressional consent.”
