The most frightening horror film of this autumn, ‘Guessy,’ is set to be released.

The film ‘Guissi’ had its media and distribution premiere at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the 9th. Attendees included actors Yoo Jae-myung, Moon Chae-won, Seo Young-hee, Won Hyun-jun, Solar, Cha Sun-woo, Bae Soo-min, Seo Ji-soo, Son Ju-yeon, and Hong Won-ki.

Coming out on the 17th, ‘Guessi’ is a mysterious tale centered around individuals desiring what they lack within the ghost trading platform ‘Guessi’, which becomes accessible when the fox window appears. The film is directed by Hong Won-ki, who previously helmed ‘Zombie Hunter’ and ‘Seoul Ghost Story’.

Director Hong mentioned that he aimed to create a world view for “Ghost Market.” It is an anthology-style film, but he wished to convey the stories of individuals with varied desires, he explained about his motivation for directing.

Furthermore, experienced actors and newcomers were plentiful in the play. Yoo Jae-myung portrayed Police Dong-sik, who single-handedly pursued a mysterious kidnapper to rectify his error. He mentioned, “I first read the script and asked the director many questions. I had numerous inquiries, ranging from the significance of flowers to the meaning of space and the symbolism of earwigs.” “All the spaces are symbolic, yet they didn’t seem genuine. I attempted various ways to salvage that aspect. I actually filmed it while observing something strange in the underground area, and as soon as the director said ‘cut,’ I immediately stepped out to get some fresh air,” he explained.

Moon Chae-won experienced the horror genre for the first time via the film ‘Guessy’. Regarding how he ended up in the movie, unlike Solar, he is scared of horror films and therefore cannot watch them as a viewer. Meanwhile, he has never attempted this genre from an acting perspective and has never received an offer to participate. It was a new experience for him, and he became curious about the outcome,” he said.

Portraying Chae-won, who was fixated on her looks, she mentioned, “I didn’t have much time to get into the role. I completed my scenes in episodes three and four.” She added, “I want to be beautiful because I’m a woman, and I relate to the character’s feelings since it’s part of the job. I aimed to portray the character’s obsession with desire as authentically as possible.”

Seo Young-hee transformed into Hee-jin, who took great risks to ensure her daughter attended a top university, ultimately returning to the restricted market. He aimed to portray his desperate identity as a mother. I felt deeply saddened by the fact that I couldn’t enjoy quality time with my daughter in the film. I thought, ‘Do I really need to study this hard?’ “I hope many students who are studying and their parents (who are supporting them) find encouragement,” he said with optimism.

Meanwhile, Seo Young-hee has been involved in various horror movies, such as ‘The Chaser’ and ‘The Full Story of Kim Bok-nam’s Murder’. In response, he said, “I experienced a lot of pressure because I portrayed a lot of fear, but I wanted to display a different aspect of myself.”

Solar, a former member of Mamamoo, portrayed Mi-yeon, who traveled to a countryside village in pursuit of her dream to become a renowned writer. This marked his debut in acting. He said, “I really enjoy horror films. When I first learned about this project from the director, I felt excited, nervous, and thrilled. Since I love them so much that I often listen to horror stories before sleeping, I believed that being part of a horror movie would be a great opportunity in my life.” It was an honor to work with director Hong Won-ki, and it was meaningful to be surrounded by talented actors.

Moreover, Won Hyun-joon portrayed Park Su-moo, who traded ghosts via the fox window, while Cha Sun-woo took on the role of Yoon Gun, a fresh police officer who joined Dong-sik’s questionable investigation to gain recognition for his abilities. Bae Soo-min plays Su-yeon, the daughter of Hee-jin, who is fixated on academic performance and college entrance exams. Seo Ji-soo depicts Eun-seo, who engages in risky deals because of her fixation on looks, and Son Joo-yeon portrays Eun-jin, an international student obsessed with social media views in her pursuit of becoming an influencer.

Finally, director Hong stated, “I used to be occupied with filming beauty cuts, but now I’m focused on capturing blood. I have several friends here who received beauty cuts from me. Creating an engaging horror film requires a lot of creativity. I spent considerable time considering how to make it appear authentic and terrifying for the audience. Since the plot isn’t realistic, it’s enjoyable to insert people’s inner thoughts into unrealistic settings and make them feel both challenging and appealing. I plan to continue making a few more films like this in the future.”
