- Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed his concerns about a troubling pattern in Nollywood related to film productions.
- The performer talked about his peers’ inclination towards physical appearance that can boost movie sales rather than skill.
- Kanayo O. Kanayo also mentioned Nollywood films uploaded to YouTube, which have generated responses.
Renowned actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, also referred to as Nnayi Sacrifice, has commented on a concerning development within the Nigerian film sector, Nollywood, involving films uploaded to the video-sharing site, YouTube.
In a recent Instagram post, Kanayo highlighted that there is currently a greater emphasis on physical attractiveness that can drive film success rather than genuine skill.
As stated by the experienced actor, filmmaking was not about possessing an attractive appearance but rather about being a talented performer and actor.
Kanayo remembered his earlier days in Nollywood, where certain sponsors harmed the careers of skilled actors they thought couldn’t promote movies.
Kanayo observed that well-known YouTube personalities are starting to advocate for the same method, thus limiting opportunities for talent within the industry.
“It took place several years back. That one action by film sponsors ended the acting careers of numerous actors. It is occurring once more. We must stop it,” he stated.
“The well-known YouTube personalities are starting to highlight the same issue: eliminating talent within the industry. Some of them will mention they are unavailable from September 2025 to August 2026. How can we maintain the content that you watch?” Kanayo questioned.
He further urged fresh individuals to accompany him as he gets ready to share narratives via film projects.
“I have chosen to take control of my future regarding my YouTube channel. I have decided to share a compelling story. It doesn’t need to involve someone with an attractive appearance. Filmmaking isn’t about having a good-looking face. It’s about being a talented actor and performer. If you don’t like it, that’s a pity,” he said.
In other news, Kanayo boldly asserted his seniority compared to his colleague, Pete Edochie, in Nollywood.
Nevertheless, he mentioned that individuals such as himself, Pete Edochie, and Nnebue, along with others, should not be omitted from the narrative of the film industry.

I intentionally steer clear of YouTube videos featuring well-known, overused actors, particularly when I’m aware they lack acting skills and it’s just about the atmosphere. So, definitely yes to fresh talent!

Indeed, sir, and this highlights an issue within the Nigerian fanbase because we can easily watch a Hollywood movie without knowing any of the actors, but with Nollywood, fans tend to ignore it if they don’t recognize famous faces. This is something that needs further consideration.

God bless you, even other industries do the same. You see, business people, when they have a program, look for those speakers whose fathers have a name, hmmmmm.

Yes, so they labeled only a few, promoted them, while the rest were hidden. Then all we see is one particular face in all movies.
