The Nigerian Navy based at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Escravos has closed down six unauthorized refining locations in the waterways of the Niger Delta area.

This was part of the continuous FOB initiatives aimed at increasing Nigeria’s daily crude oil production and counteracting economic subversion.

Furthermore, maritime staff retrieved around 11,200 liters of illicitly obtained crude oil from the unauthorized refining locations.

The head of the FOB Escravos, Navy Captain Ikenna Okoloagu, told reporters in Warri on Friday that “these accomplishments, achieved during the current Operation Delta Sanity II, were realized due to reliable intelligence.”

He stated, “The notable operational achievements in combating crude oil theft, pipeline sabotage, and associated illegal activities in the Niger Delta also correspond to the Strategic Directives of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Admiralty Medal), which focus on maintaining continuous pressure on economic saboteurs.”

Providing information about the operations, Okoloagu revealed that “after a series of synchronized actions, FOB Escravos shut down six unauthorized refining locations and confiscated around 11,200 liters of stolen crude oil. The materials were found in 28 dugout pits and six plastic bags. Additionally, one pumping device was retrieved.”

Specifically, on 2 October 2025, agents using reliable information shut down three unauthorized refining facilities located in Obodo Omadino, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State. The locations had 3,750 liters of stolen crude oil stored in 10 pit excavations and 6 polythene bags.

Later, on 4 October 2025, two more locations were removed at Obodo Omadino, resulting in the retrieval of 1,450 liters of stolen crude oil that was kept in 5 dugout pits.

Furthermore, on 6 October 2025, two locations were also taken down in Obodo Omadino, resulting in the retrieval of 6,000 liters of stolen crude oil that was kept in 13 excavated pits.

The Officer in Charge highlighted that “the mission was aimed at assisting the Federal Government’s initiatives to increase Nigeria’s daily crude oil production and counter economic subversion.”

He confirmed that the “FOB Escravos continues to be steadfast in its dedication to eliminating illegal refining facilities and protecting Nigeria’s oil resources from economic sabotage.”

On August 1, 2025, PUNCH Online stated that the Nigerian Navy staff stationed at Forward Operating Base Escravos had eliminated a total of 10illegal refining sitesin the Niger Delta waterways.
