Labour MPs are urging Sir Keir Starmerto put aside plans to reduce the voting age to 16 for general elections due to concerns that it will grant votes to theGreen Party.

They are urging the Prime Minister to recognize that proceeding with the policy at this time would be ‘complete insanity,’ given that Zack Polanski’s party is gaining significant traction among younger voters.

Alternatively, Labour members from the backbench are privately proposing that 16 and 17-year-olds should only be granted the right starting in 2030 – well after the upcoming election.general election, expected in 2029.

A senior member of parliament said to The Mail on Sunday: “Given the current trends in public opinion, it would be utterly foolish to implement this before 2029.”

He reached out to Local Government Secretary Steve Reed, who is responsible for the reform, urging him to understand that ‘otherwise, we’re simply handing Zack Polanski and the Greens more votes’.

When the proposals were initially introduced last year, Labour was accused of attempting to manipulate future elections, as younger voters were more likely to support them.Tories. However, one survey seemed to indicate that the Greens, a potential challenge in certain Labour-held areas, might gain even more.

A Savanta ITV Youth Tracker survey released last November revealed that support for Labour among individuals aged 18 to 25 had dropped from 43 percent in March of the previous year to only 25 percent. Support for the Greens had increased significantly, rising from 16 to 32 percent.

And Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp claimed that Labour MPs are only beginning to reconsider now because “it’s going to backfire on them, as this group is more inclined to vote Green.”

He criticized them for “a calculating political maneuver” and confirmed that Conservative MPs would oppose reducing the voting age.

On Saturday, a high-ranking Labour official admitted he felt ‘in favor’ of the notion of delaying the adjustment.

But he maintained that the plan to implement it for 2029 would proceed, noting that there were ‘very few’ members of this new voting age group, so it would not affect the result of the upcoming general election.

Nevertheless, Labour’s manifesto stated it would “enhance the involvement of young people in our dynamic democracy.”

A representative from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government stated that the adjustment “will take place during this parliamentary session, and will promote civic engagement and fulfill a pledge made in the manifesto.”

Nevertheless, even though the voting age change seemed beneficial, the Greens have labeled Mr. Reed as a representation of the ‘selfish and disconnected attitude that voters connect with Labour’.

A confidential Green Party document alleged that Mr. Reed was distributing files to portray Green voters as extremists and anti-Semites, although it mentioned that additional investigations had been commissioned to undermine him.

However, Mr. Reed responded, stating, “Many of the anti-Semites who joined Labour under Jeremy Corbyn have now moved over to the Green Party. Zack Polanski initially dismissed it but, after weeks of pressure, has finally recognized the issue and taken steps. I support this and will continue to highlight this despicable racism.”
