The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, over the weekend, was part of the management and board of Vanguard Media Limited, the publishers of Vanguard Newspapers, in paying tribute to the elder statesman and former governor of the old Anambra State during the Second Republic, Senator Jim Nwobodo, whom they praised as an individual who distinguished himself through his dedication to his community.

Mbah remembered that even decades following his tenure as governor, Nwobodo’s influences continued to be significant in the current regions of Anambra, Enugu, and Ebonyi States.

The governor addressed the 2025 Vanguard Personality of the Year Award event in Lagos, where the elderly individual was presented with the Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award.

“This is a suitable honor for your life dedicated to the country and humanity in many roles, along with your impressive legacies that have endured over time,” he stated.

Delivering the award to Nwobodo on behalf of Vanguard Media Limited, Mbah stated, “Initially, I want to express my gratitude to the management and board of Vanguard for this honor and for granting me the opportunity to present this award to our dedicated senior leader.”

He highlighted the previous governor’s achievements as Chairman of Rangers International, along with his role as Minister of Youth and Sports, when Nigeria performed exceptionally well at the Olympics and the African Cup of Nations (AFCON ’94) in Tunisia.

Jim, whom we affectionately call him, holds significant importance for us. As governor, at the young age of 39, he created lasting impacts throughout what is now known as the South East. He served as the governor of three states – Anambra State, Enugu State, and a portion of Ebonyi State.

As a renowned Senator from the Federal Republic, he embodied bravery and devotion to his country.

Therefore, with a strong feeling of pride and deep respect, I am pleased to confer this Lifetime Achievement Award upon a remarkable citizen of Enugu State and a devoted Nigerian.

“From my family, the Government, and the fine people of Enugu State, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to you,” Mbah concluded.

The wife of the senior politician, Dr. Patricia Nwobodo, along with other notable Nigerians, supported the former governor as he was presented with the honor.
