The governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has denied claims that he intends to select candidates for the voters before the upcoming national elections.
Nevertheless, the governor expressed his backing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s campaign for a second term.
Nwifuru spoke during the ceremony marking the marriage of his younger brother, Paulinus Nwifuru, to Immaculata at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki.
“I have not decided to back anyone except President Bola Tinubu, who has shown affection and assistance to us as a state, along with Goodluck Obinna Mbam from the State House of Assembly, who has also been supported by the voters,” he stated.
The leader encouraged candidates running for office to be cautious with their actions and statements, in order to prevent excessive tension within the political environment, and suggested they maintain a composed and modest attitude.
“you can only be present when god permits. let us remain calm, let us remain humble,” he added. he also revealed plans to meet with various stakeholders throughout the state to guarantee a seamless election process.
“We will start the regional meetings on Wednesday, continuing until Thursday and Friday, by which point I should have met with leaders throughout the state,” he stated.
He stated that the discussions will involve various roles such as the Senate, House of Representatives, State House of Assembly, and governorship.
We will not address the presidential position, as it is an area that cannot be discussed. We have a single presidential candidate, which is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“He is the only president who has initiated a project here and will see it through. We are fully supporting him with our votes,” Nwifuru said.
