Senator Neda Imasuen, who represents Edo South Senatorial District in the national assembly, has begun his efforts to secure a second term, urging the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his area to follow the example set by Edo North and Edo Central Senatorial Districts by granting him an uncontested return to the Senate.

He made a plea during his visit to the leadership of the senatorial district in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.

Senator Imasuen stated that the Edo North and Edo Central Senatorial districts have all consented to provide their nominations to the current senators, enabling them to return to the National Assembly without interruption.

Imasuen stated that upon returning to the Senate, they will automatically assume the position of ranking officers, mentioning that the Edo South Senatorial district can take inspiration from those two districts in order for him to also become a ranking officer in the Senate.

The current Senator, during a discussion on the significance of a ranking officer in the House, mentioned that there are approximately 10 ex-governors serving in the House. Although they hold considerable sway as former governors, they remain mere floor members, a circumstance he hopes to prevent if granted another opportunity.

As I mentioned earlier, the Senate serves as the nation’s top legislative authority. There are only 109 senators in total.

It is an organization made up of the most prominent individuals in Nigeria. Therefore, it is not a place for someone just starting out. When a newcomer joins, they come to gain knowledge.

And the learning phase is finished for me since we are currently in a time where we need a ranked senator because each of the three local governments, whether they are senatorial districts or not, competes with each other.

And now we are starting to transform ourselves as the Edo North sends their senator back to the ranks. Edo Central is also sending its senator back to the ranks. And Edo South claims they want to send a newcomer? I mean, he’ll just be on the sidelines, observing events without being able to make an impact. Therefore, it’s in our best interest.

Similar to the scorecard I’ve provided them, I haven’t gone there just to sit on the bench. I can confidently state that you cannot go to the Senate without knowing who is who.

And I lead one of the most critical committees in the Senate. With this role, I have significant national visibility. And thank goodness, I’m also well-connected with the leadership.

Returning to the topic of rank offers an additional benefit. I possess a voice, and I use it. Therefore, I urge them to set aside their emotions.

“Let us act in a way that benefits us as the Edo South Senatorial District, because if we do so, the only outcome is that Senator Neda Imasuen must return to her position to properly represent Edo South,” Imasuen stated.

He mentioned that holding a crucial role in the national assembly right now was due to the presence of many new members in the chamber, emphasizing that this chance might not come again. Therefore, the leadership should make every effort to re-elect him as a senior officer.

He also outlined his numerous accomplishments and pledged to build upon them.

As he stated, “from the beginning, our main focus has been on Local Economic Development. We have decided to invest in individuals, in education, in training and retraining, and in the strategic empowerment of our young people and women, with a specific emphasis on girls.”

We have provided scholarships to students throughout the area, and we are preparing to start the renovation and outfitting of certain public schools.

We have arranged training and skill development programs in Information and Communication Technology, tailoring, welding, making bags and shoes, agriculture, and agro-processing, as dignity starts with the capacity to earn a living.

Our key involvement has focused on healthcare. We have extended medical services beyond hospital boundaries to the homes of our community.

To lower the rates of maternal and infant deaths, we reactivated the proven role of traditional birth attendants, training them to offer prenatal and postnatal care to women who lack access to formal health facilities.

This initiative is carried out under the close oversight of the Edo State Ministry of Health in partnership with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to maintain adherence to medical regulations.

In road infrastructure, we have finished the first phase of two important projects: the 3.5km Osasere Osayogie/Utekon Bypass road, featuring dual-side drainage, located in Ovia North East LGA.

“We have also finished 2km of the Irokhin Road within Orhionmwon LGA. The expansion of this road, along with other projects, is included in the 2026 Budget Act,” he stated.

For Orobosa Omo-Ojo, one of his most vocal backers, it was mentioned that Senator Neda Imasuen is still trying to persuade candidates to abandon their aspirations so he can run again.

Previously, the senatorial leader and former deputy governor of the state, Pius Odubu, called on Senator Neda Imasuen to conduct his campaign in a peaceful manner and to steer clear of spreading false accusations.
