Members of the Delta State Police Command stated that they have detained seven individuals and seized weapons and ammunition during two operations within the state.

Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Delta State Police Command, verified the arrest. He stated, “The Delta State Police Command has achieved additional operational victories in its ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities throughout the state, resulting in the capture of seven individuals and the recovery of two guns along with eighty live bullets during separate intelligence-driven operations.”

As per the PPRO, on May 11, 2026, around 2:30 am, members of the Command Anti-Cult Unit, based on reliable information, conducted a raid on a suspected illegal shelter in the Eku-Igun village within the Ethiope West Local Government Area.

He mentioned that during the operation, six individuals associated with an illegal organization were taken into custody, and among the items found on the suspects were one locally manufactured single-barrel gun, one double-barrel locally made pistol, and two live bullets.

According to Edafe, an investigation was underway to determine the suspects’ potential connection to recent cult-related murders and other violent incidents in Eku, Igun, Abraka, and nearby areas, with efforts now being stepped up to capture additional members of the gang who have fled.

Edafe also mentioned that during a different operation conducted by the Safe Delta team based at the Head Bridge nipping point, on May 13, 2026, around 3:40 pm, officers stopped and searched a man named Mokwunye Prince Jerry, who is 32 years old.

He mentioned that the individual, who was on a motorcycle and holding a bag, underwent a search which resulted in the discovery of six packets containing live ammunition.

According to the police image maker, initial findings indicated that the suspect reportedly identified himself as part of a hunters/vigilante group in Ibusa and also mentioned that an individual named Anthony, who is currently at large, instructed him to gather the ammunition, with the investigation still in progress.

In the meantime, the Police Commissioner of Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has praised the operatives for their effective operations. He emphasized the Command’s strong dedication to fighting cult activities, unlawful firearm possession, and other violent crimes within the state.

The CP also encouraged locals to stay alert and keep providing the Police with accurate and prompt information that will assist in current operations and enhance public safety throughout the State.
