The Edo State Police Command announced that it has recovered 18 individuals who were taken hostage on May 9th, 2026, in the Ogua Community located along the Benin-Lagos Road.
Abductors had assaulted a commercial bus owned byYoung Shall Grow Motorstransporting passengers from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos and shot a female traveler.
An official from the Edo Police, Eno Ikoedem, stated that a joint rescue and forest search operation resulted in the recovery of 10 passengers, including three minors.
Ikoedem mentioned that the use of drones, aerial monitoring, intelligence-based law enforcement, and continuous technological assistance led to a confrontation with the kidnappers, resulting in the rescue of two more passengers.
Today, the Edo State Police Command is happy to announce to the public that all six remaining kidnapped passengers have been safely recovered.
The Police Commissioner, CP Monday Agbonika, praises the bravery and perseverance of the officers involved in the operation and assures the community that the Command remains committed, with ongoing intensive bush clearance efforts aimed at capturing those responsible for the crime.
