The DC Police confirmed that the Secret Service was present at the location and advised the public to stay away from the area.

Reporters based at the White House claim they were instructed to seek cover once the region was put on lockdown.

A suspect reportedly fired at law enforcement officers near the White House and was killed following the event, according to the Secret Service’s post on social media.

“Secret Service officers fired back, hitting the suspect, who was taken to a local hospital and later died,” a statement noted, mentioning that none of the officers were harmed.

A witness was also injured by gunfire, according to the Secret Service. Details regarding the individual’s health status have not been disclosed.

A police source, speaking under the condition of anonymity, informed journalists that the suspect was emotionally unstable and had previously received a “no-contact order.”

President Donald Trump was present at the White House during the shooting. It remains unclear whether he was the intended victim.

The Secret Service stated that no White House “protectees or operations were affected.”
