LG Energy Solution has entered into an agreement valued at more than 2 trillion won to provide energy storage system (ESS) batteries to DTE Energy, the leading integrated energy company in Michigan, United States.

LG Energy Solution announced on the 28th that it has completed an agreement with DTE Energy to provide 6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of ESS batteries. The deal is worth $1.6 billion (around 2.4 trillion South Korean won), with a delivery period spanning roughly two years.

DTE Energy, based in Detroit, Michigan, is a leading electricity and energy provider. It provides power to roughly 2.3 million residential and commercial electricity users and 1.3 million natural gas customers across southeastern Michigan, covering both city and industrial zones. The company’s yearly income is approximately $15.8 billion (about 21.7 trillion South Korean won).

By means of this agreement, DTE Energy aims to move forward with eight important power grid initiatives, such as the Oracle AI Data Center Project located in Saline Township, Michigan.

With Oracle developing an open AI data center, industry experts anticipate the use of LG Energy Solution’s ESS batteries for this project.

The power supply provided by LG Energy Solution will assist in balancing electricity usage and enhance the efficiency of data center operations.

The items for this supply will be produced mainly at the Michigan Holland facility, in alignment with the North America localization plan. This factory was established as North America’s first major ESS battery manufacturing site in June of last year.
