Addis Ababa, May 27, 2026 — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed declared the completion of irrigation dams as part of the Finna Oromia Irrigation Projects in Gomole Woreda within the Borena Zone, calling it a significant step forward in establishing water infrastructure and enhancing the region’s ability to withstand climate challenges.

The Prime Minister, through his social media platforms, emphasized that the new critical infrastructure has established a significant water storage capacity of over 190 million cubic meters in Dese Gora, guaranteeing a stable and sustainable water supply for the area.

After these significant development initiatives, the newly built infrastructure is capable of irrigating more than 14,500 hectares of farmland, significantly improving local ways of life.

“Ensuring water infrastructure is a major achievement in enhancing resilience, highlighted by the completion of irrigation dams as part of the Finna Oromia Irrigation Projects in Gomole Woreda within the Borena Zone,” said PM Abiy.

In Dese Gora, for instance, this essential infrastructure has established a significant water storage capacity of over 190 million cubic meters, providing a consistent and long-term water supply.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that the strategic water initiatives will contribute in various ways to the region’s socio-economic stability.

By ensuring steady access to water, the programs are designed to directly assist local families, enhance agricultural output, and protect essential water supplies for animals within the pastoral region.
