The site supervisor was detained on charges of professional negligence leading to death related to a burial incident that took place at a sewer pipe construction site near Suseo Station in Gangnam District, Seoul.

Seoul’s Suseo Police Station reported on the 28th that Kwon, who was the site supervisor for a sewer pipe construction project, was charged on the 27th with alleged negligence leading to death. As per the inquiry, Kwon claimed he skipped the soil support measures, believing the limited space would complicate the work.

The authorities intend to keep examining the specific details of the incident using Kwon’s account, the scene conditions, and information from a representative of the Gangnam District Office who supervised the construction.

On the 27th, an incident took place at a repair location for an aging sewer pipe close to Suseo Station in Gangnam District, where three workers were covered by falling earth while performing their tasks. Two workers managed to escape by themselves, while a man in his 60s was found in a state of cardiac arrest, taken to a medical facility, but ultimately passed away.

It was verified that the company responsible for the sewer pipe maintenance project had signed an agreement with the Gangnam District Office at the end of last year and commenced work in April of this year.
