A widening divide has appeared among the relatives of the late industrialist and inventor Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka following contradictory funeral plans announced by various family members.

The most recent conflict comes after a media session led by former Dome-Kwabenya MP SarahAdwoa Safo, who revealed that her father’s funeral would occur on July 30, 2026, in Gomoa Mpota, Central Region.

She also revealed plans for a funeral service at Independence Square in Accra on July 31 and a thanksgiving event in Kumasi on August 8.

Nevertheless, her declaration has faced opposition from other family members, including her brother, Akofena Safo, who is said to have distributed a funeral notice stating June 25, 2026, as the date for the burial.

The conflict has further expanded, with committee members involved in arranging the funeral casting doubt on how the new dates were determined.

Dr. Philip Kissi Siaw, co-chairman of the committee, stated that the larger family was not involved in the decision prior to the announcement.

Dr. Siaw also claimed that there is still ambiguity regarding the location of Apostle Safo’s remains.

He stated that certain family members remain unaware of the location where the body is being stored, even after multiple requests.

He also voiced worries about whether the late inventor’s preferences for the treatment of his body were being honored, emphasizing that Apostle Safo had previously opposed extended storage in a morgue and the conduct of an autopsy.

When Apostle Safo Kantanka was alive, he mentioned that if he died, his body should not be kept in a morgue for long, and that no autopsy should take place. However, following his passing, Adwoa Safo was the one who had his body placed in a morgue. To this day, we remain unaware of where his body is located.

“When we inquired with her, she informed us that President Mahama had arranged for a space in a mortuary to store the body. Can you believe that Adwoa Safo hasn’t even gone there to verify the body?” he claimed.

In addition to the funeral preparations, Dr. Siaw raised further statements regarding the connection between Adwoa Safo and her deceased father, claiming that their communication had deteriorated in recent times.

She had not been in communication with her father for the last three years. Even as Ghanaians criticized her for traveling overseas, her father sent a chief to speak with her. Can you believe that she supposedly discarded the phone upon hearing her father’s voice?

“Even the birthday presents she gave her father were reclaimed. So why would she be determined to take charge after his death? I have never encountered a case where a child holds a press conference about funeral details while the extended family is still around and actively participating,” he claimed.
