The parents of a child looked after by a serial killer nurseLucy Letbysay she is an “angel” who “saved their child twice.”
The couple, Clare and Carl, gave birth to their daughter Jessica at the Countess ofChesterHospital 10 years ago when Letby was employed as a neonatal nurse.
Letby, Britain’s most notorious child murderer,received 14 life sentences for the murders and seven attempted killings in 2024.
Every one of her crimes occurred in the neonatal unit where she was employed at the Countess of Chester Hospital inCheshirefrom June 2015 to June 2016.
Following the revelation of Letby’s offenses, the couple has maintained that she would never harm a child, as she rescued their daughter on two occasions when she experienced breathing difficulties.
Carl stated: “Lucy Letby was the one who took Jessica to our room in the ward when she was allowed out of the NICU to sit with us.”
She handed her over to us, and that was a very brief, quick exchange as well. She just said, “Here’s your baby,” in a way. “She’s all yours.”
The couple were discussing on theAmanda Knox on her podcast, who was convicted and later exonerated for the murder of British woman Meredith Kercher inItaly in 2007.
Carl stated that Letby was part of one of the “best moments of his life,” and the couple is now dealing with survivor’s guilt as their child lived while others perished.
He claimed the hospital was attempting to blame a single person for systemic problems.
Carl stated: “I’d estimate I’m more than 90% certain that they have attributed poor management, flawed processes, and poorly managed departments to a single person.”
