The director of the Federal Bureau of Prisons under President Donald Trump is responding following a Democratic representative’s claim that the administration provided upscale conditions to Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell.
Maxwell, whom authorities claim managed Epstein’s child exploitation operation for many years, was unexpectedly transferred from a Florida facility to a well-equipped “prison camp” in Bryan, Texas typically used for minor offenders, violating regulations that usually prevent sex offenders from being placed there — just as the administration was seeking her testimony to ease public anger over the Epstein case documents.

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), who serves as the top-ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, explained the evident unfairness during an interview on CNN this week.
“Oversight and Judiciary Democrats visited Ghislaine Maxwell’s prison today, which is essentially a clean park featuring fountains and plenty of green area,” said Garcia,posting his reactionto X. “She is the only person convicted of a sex offense there … this is not justice.”

He asked for explanations regarding why Todd Blanche, who was then the Deputy Attorney General and is now Trump’s acting attorney general and candidate for the permanent position, sent her to that facility.
This occurs alongside other reports about prison employees at the Bryan facilityrefused to respond to fundamental questionsfrom legislators during the tour.
As a reaction, the official X account of the Federal Bureau of Prisons reacted strongly.
The designation and transfer of Inmate Ghislaine Maxwell were handled separately by the BOP, taking into account factors that necessitated enhanced security,” stated the release. “Inmate safety remains a top priority, and we could no longer guarantee her safety at her previous location. The new facility allowed the BOP to implement better security protocols and provided a leadership team trained to manage these requirements.
The statement concluded, ‘Chairman Garcia’s remarks on CNN are not only completely untrue but also aim to undermine the individuals of BOP, who diligently strive to maintain safety and security in typically difficult and intense conditions.’
This occurred several months after a whistleblower disclosed that Maxwell is receivingspecialized meals and individual leisure time at her new facility.
