Micron Technology, a U.S.-based chipmaker often referred to as a “semiconductor industry indicator,” has surpassed market forecasts, boosting confidence in the second-quarter outcomes of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the leading memory chip producers globally. The financial sector estimates that the combined operating profit of both companies might hit 150 trillion South Korean won during the second quarter.

As per the domestic securities consensus estimates released on June 25, Samsung Electronics is projected to achieve a second-quarter revenue of 170.7615 trillion South Korean won, along with an operating profit of 87.4084 trillion South Korean won. This marks a 2.3 times rise in revenue and an 18.7 times jump in operating profit compared to the same period last year. Samsung is expected to allocate several trillion won for performance-based bonuses as part of the labor-management agreement finalized in May. Despite this, analysts forecast that the company’s second-quarter operating profit will surpass 80 trillion South Korean won.

SK Hynix is anticipated to continue along the same path. The securities sector predicts that SK Hynix’s revenue for the second quarter will increase by 272.6% compared to the same period last year, reaching 82.8326 trillion South Korean won, while operating profit is expected to rise by 588.1% to 63.3955 trillion South Korean won. Both companies are positioned to exceed their previous quarterly records established in the first quarter of this year.

The semiconductor sector believes that Micron’s performance has quickly alleviated worries about a semiconductor bubble. Previously, anxieties regarding peak pricing for artificial intelligence (AI) memory and reduced funding from major technology companies caused substantial drops in memory stock values. Nevertheless, Micron’s impressive earnings report and positive forecast for the second half of the year have revived hopes for a competitive semiconductor market.

This year, semiconductor companies are anticipated to achieve unprecedented performance levels. Samsung Electronics predicts an annual revenue of 705.9217 trillion South Korean won, along with an operating profit of 365.6363 trillion South Korean won. This amount alone surpasses the total operating profits from the last nine years, covering the previous memory boom period between 2017–2018 and extending up to 2025. SK Hynix is expected to generate 345.5214 trillion South Korean won in annual revenue, with an operating profit of 265.7683 trillion South Korean won. Combined, these two firms are projected to exceed 630 trillion South Korean won in operating profit for this year.
