The Edo State Police Command reported that its officers, working together with local community members and hunters, freed 11 farmers who had been taken from their fields in the Ogbido Community, located in Iyahmo, Estako West local government area.
It mentioned that the rescue was completed successfully following an extensive operation in the nearby forest.
A statement from Edo Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem mentioned that the rescue unit faced off against the kidnappers in a violent shootout.
Struck by the overwhelming power and quick reaction of the agents, the abductors left their hostages behind and ran into the woods.
Thus, nine males and two females were saved without injury. The victims were transported to the hospital for checks and have now been back with their families. Meanwhile, actions are intensifying to catch the escaping suspects.
