The Kwankwasiyya Movement encounters a “politically bleak” future and its impact is “definitely uncertain” After 2027, a founding member and former leader of the group, Hon. Suleiman Bichi, has stated.

Bichi, who is the Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign in Kano State, stated that the Movement is currently “marked by internal crisis that clearly weakens” it.

“The impact of it is under evaluation, and its continuation past 2027 remains definitely unclear,” he stated.

Bichi stated that the Movement is currently divided, with a major group headed by Governor Yusuf now part of the APC.

“The Movement is currently split. A major group, headed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has joined the APC, causing a division within the political system,” he said.

Bichi also criticized Kwankwasiyya’s partnership with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), calling it “full of conflict.”

“The party has also substituted certain candidates supported by Kwankwasiyya to implement a power-sharing deal of 60-40 in favor of the original members of the NDC, indicating significant internal conflicts that might undermine its chances in the election,” he stated.

Regarding whether the Movement can secure victory in 2027, Bichi was straightforward: “Can it win in 2027? I will respond with a clear no. This can be logically inferred from a significant challenge confronting the NDC: the Movement’s candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, is set to face a tough contest against the APC and the well-known current Governor Yusuf.”

He claimed that Kano’s political scene now indicates that Kwankwaso’s power is declining.

“Kwankwaso’s power is decreasing, with his 2023 presidential support mainly relying on Kano, and I think he doesn’t have the organization to defeat the current leader,” Bichi stated.

The APC leader further challenged the Movement’s ideological path, referencing the selection of Kwankwaso’s son as a vice-governor candidate.

“Additionally, the Kwankwasiyya movement is being questioned regarding its ideology and openness, particularly following the selection of Kwankwaso’s son as a vice-governor candidate, which goes against its initial populist principles that we worked hard to create,” he stated.

Bichi, who referred to himself as a founding member and early leader of Kwankwasiyya, cautioned that the Movement could end up being a “personalized family endeavor.”

“Do not forget that I was the original member of Kwankwasiyya and its leader. This implies a danger of turning into a personal family initiative,” he further stated.
