The leader of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has called on the newly formed League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states to engage in political activities to promote the beneficial aspects and moral principles of Islam.

The ruler also supported the establishment of the league, calling it a timely effort that would enhance Islamic solidarity, encourage religious coexistence, and create a unified platform for Muslim scholars throughout the area.

Speaking to over 1,000 Imams and Alfas during the league’s launch, Oba Akanbi urged significant changes to tackle the deficiencies of the previously unregistered organization.

He highlighted the importance of cooperation, solidarity, and uniformity among members to guarantee the new organization endures the difficulties linked to its initial phase and achieves its goals.

He stated, “Beyond consistency, I urge your active involvement in politics. If you hold political influence, politicians will reach out to you. You won’t have to chase after them as is happening now. We require your presence in power. You can be elected or appointed. Join a political party right away and get involved. As Muslims, you need strength. This power won’t be handed to you effortlessly.”

I urge you all to commit yourselves to this path of revitalizing the league by distributing power in a decentralized manner, fostering a feeling of inclusion and unity among local Imams and Alfas.

He mentioned that the organization will foster a feeling of connection through the decentralized authority of local Imams by acknowledging Imams and Alfas within the community.
