Sri Lanka, July 6 — The Anuradhapura, Kekirawa, and Sivalakulama police stated that the initial incident took place between the 16th and 17th kilometer markers on the Yakalla-Galkulama main road, within the Sivalakulama police area on Friday evening. A motorbike coming from the direction of Sippukulama towards Yakalla crashed into the back of a bicycle moving in the same direction.

The cyclist, recognized as 66-year-old Tikiri Bandage Gnanasiri, who lives on Yakalla Road in Sippukulama, passed away due to his injuries while being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

The police stated that the motorcyclist, a 24-year-old individual from the Dabagollawa region in Sivalakulama, is set to be taken into custody. He is currently receiving medical care at the Anuradhapura General Hospital. In the meantime, the second tragic incident occurred on the Kekirawa-Yakalla road, which falls under the Kekirawa Police area.

As reported by the police, the incident took place on Saturday night when a motorcycle moving at a high speed from Kekirawa to Yakalla collided with a person who was positioned on the left lane’s edge, putting up street decorations for the Mihindu Perahera at the Maldeniyapura Visuddharama Temple.

A pedestrian who suffered severe injuries died following hospitalization. He has been recognized as 47-year-old Rathnayake Mudiyanselage Gamini Karunaratne, a local from Maldeniyapura, Kekirawa. The motorcyclist involved in the incident has been taken to Dambulla Hospital for additional care. Authorities also mentioned that the suspect is set to take a drug test.
