Moroccan coach Mohamed Ouahbi expressed his «great pride» in the Atlas Lions following their 2-0 loss to France in the World Cup quarter-finals, commending their dedication and stating that the elimination would not affect the team’s goals.
We put in everything. We attempted everything. We aimed to play more effectively with the ball, but the French applied immense pressure on us. They created better opportunities and proved to be stronger at crucial moments,” Ouahbi stated after the game, while praising France, whom he referred to as “a very strong team.
The coach emphasized that he likes to concentrate on Morocco’s general development rather than just the outcome. “I am very proud of what we have accomplished. I am pleasantly surprised by how quickly the players adopted my philosophy. They demonstrated an outstanding attitude and a strong motivation to grow,” he mentioned.
Ouahbi urged his team to draw lessons from the loss and keep progressing. «We need to keep going, be self-critical, raise our heads, and return stronger. This elimination won’t hinder our ambitions», he stated.
He also commended the ongoing backing of King Mohammed VI for the growth of Moroccan football, noting that the country’s recent successes were due to the monarch’s “vision” and sustained investment.
“We possess all the necessary elements to keep moving forward,” he added, referencing the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, World Cup qualifiers, and Morocco’s goal to “win” the 2030 World Cup while playing at home. “We have a strong group of young athletes and all the requirements to maintain our development,” he finished.
