A court was told that a stranger killed a young mother while she was asleep in bed beside her husband and their three-month-old baby, following an intrusion into the family’s residence.
Kirandeep Kaur, 24, is said to have been assaulted by Daniel Sean James, 46, at a house in Hayes, west.London, on the morning of July 12.
He is said to have jumped from a window and fractured both ankles before being arrested by officers in the vicinity, the Old Bailey heard.
Prior to the random assault, James is said to have traversed a sports field in Hayes wearing entirely black clothing and holding a substantial knife.
He is alleged to have been captured on CCTV and doorbell cameras as he approached three separate locations before sneaking up behind a man in his 20s on the street and stabbing him in the back.
A few minutes later, approximately at 7:51 am, he is said to have kicked the door of the house where Mrs. Kaur lived with her husband and infant, and entered while they were asleep in their bed.
The husband woke up to the sound of his wife’s scream and witnessed a figure exiting the bedroom, according to prosecutor Charlene Sumnall.

Two minutes later, James left the property on Uxbridge Road by leaping out of a window in the kitchen-living room area, as the court was told.
Suffering from both ankles broken, he is said to have attempted to escape but fell down after ten meters.
The court heard that approximately 24 minutes passed from the initial reported sighting of the defendant until the police arrived at the location.
Mrs. Kaur sustained a stabbing injury to her chest and was declared deceased at 8:26 am. The man in his twenties was hospitalized with non-life-threatening stab wounds.
The court at the Old Bailey was informed that both victims had no prior connection with the defendant, who received medical treatment in the hospital before being arrested.
He was later accused of the killing of Mrs. Kaur, attempted murder, and possession of a knife.
On Thursday, James, who resides in west London, attended the Old Bailey via video link from Wormwood Scrubs.
Judge Nigel Lickley KC scheduled a plea hearing for October 1 and a tentative three-week trial starting April 5 next year.
James only spoke to verify his identity and was taken into custody.
