A stranger slipped past securityAt NBC’s “Today” show on Thursday morning, an individual reportedly forced his way into the network’s Rockefeller Center building and allegedly charged at anchor Craig Melvin while shouting a racial slur, according to law enforcement sources who spoke to TMZ.

The report states that the intruder was searching for weatherman Al Roker. Following an entry into the public plaza around 9 a.m. ET, he entered a stairwell and proceeded backstage, reportedly close to the dressing areas. The exact extent of his progress is still unknown. Upon failing to locate Roker, he confronted Melvin within a restricted zone,allegedly charging at him and yelling the N-word.

Staff and security entered quickly and managed the situation. The individual, referred to by sources as white and not carrying any weapons, wasdetained and arrested. No one was injured, and the disorder did not reach the broadcast.

Harvey Levin from TMZ described it as a “major security violation” in a video shared on TMZ’s social media platform.

“The manner in which it was conveyed to us by individuals from the Today show was that they stated, and this was a direct quote, ‘Heads are going to roll’ due to this security lapse, which endangered the performers on the show,” he mentioned.

Approximately 15 minutes following the intense experience, Melvin and Roker were back in front of the cameras. A picture taken inside the studio depicted Melvin surrounded by his coworkers right after the event.

Employees are asking how an unknown person was able to follow one of the network’s top celebrities from a public sidewalk and enter the building so deeply without being noticed. The security lapse hasbrought up sharp questions regarding safetyat the morning program, which airs from the ground-floor Studio 1A, renowned for its “window on the world.”
