The individual responsible for inputting President Donald Trump’s speeches into the teleprompter has beenquietly bettingon which of those terms thepresident would actually— and securing a major victory, sources revealed to ABC News.

Gabriel Perez, a technical assistant who has managed Trump’s teleprompter since 2016, is said to have earned over $100,000 through the prediction platform Kalshi by placing bets on Trump’s speeches, as reported by individuals involved in a Commodity Futures Trading Commission inquiry. According to these sources, he placed wagers on more than a dozen speeches within three months, including the February State of the Union address, a January speech at Davos, and a March Medal of Honor event.

Perez usually reviews Trump’s prepared speeches and makes final adjustments based on the president’s input, according to sources. Investigators discovered that Perez also withdrew from bets during a speech when Trump omitted a word he had wagered on.

Trump has admitted that he frequently deviates from the prepared text.

“You know, when you come up here, you’re taking a big risk, especially for me since I rely on the teleprompter about 80% of the time,” Trump stated in January during a speech that investigators think Perez placed a bet on.

Kalshi alerted the commission to the transactions, and Perez is currently in discussions regarding settlement, which would require him to return his gains and cease placing such bets, according to sources. He admitted to some of the trades with regulators, although Manhattan federal prosecutors have decided not to initiate a criminal investigation.

Perez continues to manage Trump’s teleprompter.
