An online campaign established to assist the family of athree-year-old girl who drowned in a CaliforniaThe lagoon has been closed as officials begin to examine if the young girl might have been murdered.

Lailah Rosillo, from Modesto, was part of a family camping excursion on July 18 when she passed away at the Fleming Meadows Lagoon within the Don Pedro Reservoir, located roughly three hours east of San Francisco, as stated in a previously active GoFundMe campaign.

Law enforcement officers from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office stated they initially got a call that afternoon indicating a three-year-old had gone missing.

However, as officers rushed to the location, additional 911 calls were received, stating that the girl was discovered unresponsive in the water, with bystanders urgently administering CPR to try and save her.

When police officers in a patrol boat arrived at the location, they took charge of performing CPR, but Rosillo could not be brought back to life and was declared dead on site around 3:30 pm.

A probe into the girl’s death is currently underway, Sheriff David Vasquez mentioned during a recent Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors gathering.

He further stated, ‘We are considering it a homicide,’according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

It remains uncertain what caused officials to think the young girl might have been murdered.

However, deputies from the sheriff’s office had previously stated they were searching for images and recordings of Rosillo on a boat or raft before the incident, and were trying to find people who saw the child prior to her being retrieved from the water.

The sheriff’s department later issued an image of the blue raft that Rosillo might have been on, which seemed to indicate that several individuals were nearby the boat.

Deputies are currently collecting testimonies, Vasquez mentioned during the county board meeting.

“We don’t possess all the logistics or all this information from everyone in the vicinity,” the sheriff stated,according to MyMotherLode.com.

We are still collecting that information, which is a standard procedure for us when there is a child’s death.

Meanwhile, he stated, officials are considering the case a homicide “until further information is available.”

“It deeply affected the foundations of this whole community,” Vasquez said, following an online campaign that collected over $13,000 to cover Lailah’s funeral and memorial costs.

A GoFundMe campaign created by Yolanda Muro, who described herself as a close friend of Lailah’s grandmother Lisa, referred to the young girl as someone “whose smile brought joy to everyone nearby.”

“What was intended as a happy family camping getaway turned into an unimaginable horror that no parent, brother, or grandparent should ever have to face,” the fundraiser stated.

Lailah left behind an older brother and sister, along with a younger sibling, as stated by a family friend.

‘Her parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and extended relatives are heartbroken and struggling to deal with a loss that no family can ever truly be ready for,’ Muro wrote.

In the meantime, Lailah’s aunt, Art Martinez, described her niece’s passing as ‘the worst possible tragedy’ in a public Facebook update.

I can’t begin to picture the suffering my sister is going through,” Martinez said. “The only thing we can do is support her and other children.
