South Korean national team defender Lee Han-beom, aged 24, has signed with the prominent Belgian club Club Brugge.
On August 3, the club revealed on its official website, “We have secured Lee Han-beom until 2029,” granting him the jersey number 3.
As reported by the Danish media source Tipsbladet, the transfer fee for Lee Han-beom amounted to 10.5 million euros (around 17.4 billion South Korean won). This represents a seven times rise compared to the 1.5 million euros he was transferred for when he moved from FC Seoul of K League 1 to the Danish team Midtjylland in August 2023.
The Belgian Jupiler Pro League is commonly seen as a pathway to Europe’s top leagues. South Korean athletes like Seol Ki-hyeon and Hong Hyun-seok leveraged their success here to move on to bigger opportunities. Oh Hyeon-gyu, who is now playing for the Turkish team Beşiktaş, also went through the Belgian league.
Club Brugge, a long-standing top team, has won the league championship 20 times, including the last season, placing them second in the list of all-time champions, following Anderlecht (34 titles).
Lee Han-beom made 67 official appearances for Midtjylland, netting three goals and delivering eight assists. Although he featured in just two games during his initial season, he became a key defender last year, helping the team win the league title. He notably scored a header in the closing moments of the Danish Cup final against Copenhagen, leading to a 1-0 win and the trophy.
He participated in the entire 90 minutes of each of South Korea’s three group-stage games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
