A number of individuals are believed to have perished following a multi-vehicle accident in Etukrom, close to Bonsu Junction in Ghana’s Eastern Region, on Monday, August 3.

The accident included five vehicles: a State Transport Company (STC) bus, two gasoline tankers, and a Sonata.

The STC bus was entirely ruined by flames, while one of the fuel trucks veered off the road and crashed into a nearby river.

Alex King Nartey, part of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Communication Team, verified the event to Citi News.

He mentioned that emergency workers had been sent to the location to evaluate the severity of the accident and provide help to those involved.

At the time of the report, the overall number of deaths and injuries was not yet known because recovery and evaluation efforts were still in progress.

The participation of fuel tankers in the accident greatly increased the danger on site, as one tanker’s fall into the river added to worries about the difficulty of the rescue mission.

Officials have not yet released information regarding the reason for the accident or verified the number of passengers aboard the STC bus during the event.
