Four scholarship recipients under the Presidential Amnesty Programme have achieved Distinction in their Master’s degrees from UK universities.

The four individuals who have excelled are Nina Orubebe (financial management), Tonbra Tonlagha (international hospitality and tourism), Kemien Egbekun (law), and Simon Douye (construction engineering management).

Four students were part of sixteen overseas graduate scholarship recipients under the Presidential Amnesty Program who earned their master’s degrees from different universities.

Graduates have specialized in fields including software engineering, oil and gas, data science and engineering, financial management, law, construction engineering management, global public health, and more.

So far, accomplished scholars have attended the graduation events of their different institutions in the United States and the United Kingdom, such as Carnegie Mellon University, Coventry University, Manchester Metropolitan University, University of Dundee, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Bedfordshire, Aston University, University of Cambridge, University of South Wales, and Northumbria University, to name a few.

Under the guidance of the Administrator, Dr Dennis Brutu Otuaro, the PAP has generated 111 individuals with master’s and doctoral degrees—57 from foreign universities and 54 from Nigerian institutions—since he took charge in March 2024.

In discussing the progress, Dr. Otuaro praised the accomplished students for approaching their studies with dedication and finishing their programs on time, highlighting that they have contributed to the human resource pool that PAP is developing for the Niger Delta.

Dr. Otuaro showed happiness that PAP scholarship students working both inside and outside Nigeria have been proving the Federal Government’s investment in their education.

He emphasized that his extensive scholarship programs are in line with President Bola Tinubu’s initiative to bridge the region’s human capital development gap via his Renewed Hope Agenda.

Dr. Otuaro stated that he is not swayed by the trivial attacks launched by his opponents and those attempting to intimidate him, who are unhappy with the growth of the scholarship program aimed at improving access to higher education for people from the Niger Delta.

He mentioned that he is quite encouraged by President Tinubu’s generosity and support, as the president approved an increase in the agency’s budget. He highlighted that the president’s action came with a directive to expand scholarships in order to ensure the region’s peace and the well-being of future generations.

The leader of the PAP stated, “Our choice to extend the scholarship program is based on the significant backing and strong wish of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to close the region’s human capital development gap within the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

We will not be swayed by the trivial actions of troublemakers and critics, as many of them are unhappy that we have expanded educational scholarship opportunities for impoverished Niger Deltans in accordance with the President’s directive.

This group of 16 accomplished graduate students from abroad, supported by the PAP, has strengthened the Federal Government’s commitment to investing in the education of youths from the Niger Delta, aiming to promote lasting peace and economic growth in the area.

We remain committed to fulfilling President Tinubu’s vision for the Niger Delta. Nothing, not even threats or smear campaigns, will stop us, as the president and National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, are pleased with our efforts.

He thanked President Tinubu and the NSA, highlighting that they are establishing a strong base for peace, stability, and mutual prosperity in the area.

Dr. Otuaro has provided approximately 9,000 scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Nigerian universities, along with 247 for advanced degrees at foreign institutions.
