At least three family members, including a four-year-old girl, lost their lives in an accident when a driver trying to overtake other vehicles collided with their car.

The household was traveling north on a road located just west ofChicagoon Friday at approximately 9:15 PM, when a driver traveling south in a pickup truck veered into their lane and collided with the family’s SUV directly.

Amy Witter, 38, died immediately. James Witter, 65, and a four-year-old girl were taken to local hospitals, where they eventually passed away, as reported by the Kendall County Coroner’s Office. All the deceased were residents of Des Moines.Iowa. 

The young girl was not disclosed publicly, but she was referred to as Maddie in anonline fundraiser for the family.

The fundraiser, held on Monday, stated that Amy’s husband, Danny Love, also lost his life in the accident, and that one of the family’s other two daughters, Azari, is still “fighting for life in a hospital.”

Officials have yet to verify Danny’s passing.

IllinoisThe State Police have identified the individual driving the pickup truck suspected of causing the accident as 22-year-old Carson Rehkopf.

The first impact resulted in a four-vehicle collision, with Illinois State Police reporting that five individuals involved in the accident, including those who later succumbed, were transported to medical facilities.

Rehkopf was admitted to the Kendall County Jail on Sunday and faced eight felony charges, including six counts of aggravated DUI resulting in death and two counts of aggravated DUI causing serious bodily injury, as per the jail’s documentation.

The Kendall County Coroner’s Office stated that forensic autopsies for the victims are planned for Sunday to establish the reasons and types of death.

A report on the results of the autopsies has not been made public.

The coroner’s office stated that the Illinois State Police are still looking into the accident and the causes of the victims’ deaths.

Rehkopf made his initial court appearance on Monday afternoon, as per jail records, but it remains unknown whether he has submitted a plea. His subsequent court date is set for August 17.

If found guilty of his enhanced DUI charges related to death, Rehkopf could receive prison sentences ranging from three to 14 years for each charge, as per Illinois regulations.

He would likely also be ineligible for parole, have his license taken away, and face a fine of as much as $25,000.

Rehkopf faces serious DUI charges with aggravating factors that could result in a prison term of one to three years and fines reaching $25,000 if found guilty.
