Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has changed his stance on the Senate filibuster for the second time.
This year, the departing senator deviated from his long-standing position on the contentious rule, stating he would support modifying the filibuster to enact Trump’s SAVE America Act, a bill aimed at restricting voting rights.
Cornyn’s change in approach aimed to attract frustrated MAGA supporters who were leaning towards his competitor, state Attorney General Ken Paxton, and to gain the support of President Donald Trump, but neither outcome occurred.
Now, as he leaves Congress following the loss of his re-nomination attempt, Cornyn said to TheNational Reviewhe is against removing the filibuster once more.

“I mentioned that I am open to modifications in the filibuster, but I deliberately remained somewhat vague,” Cornyn stated.
I’m pleased to have had that discussion, but I’m not ready to support changing the filibuster right now.
Meanwhile, Trump keeps pushing Republicans to eliminate the rule in order to push forward his agenda, although many Republicans are opposing this, understanding the significance of the filibuster.historicallyhinders Democratic initiatives more than Republican ones.
