This is the instant a brave police officer leaped from a bicycle into a flying rugby-style tackle to stop a drug dealer escaping during a thrilling chase in a park.
A 19-year-old named Junior Lavin was observed selling crack cocaine in Albert Park, Middlesbrough, by a police drone on February 16.
He was in the midst of an audacious daylight robbery around 2 p.m. when police moved in.
Videos show Lavin sitting on an electric motorcycle, going through a set of packages while two individuals are nearby him.
One officer rushes forward and tries to put Lavin in a headlock, but he manages to escape.
The drug dealer drops a shoe but keeps running through the park – until an officer on a bicycle abruptly ends his attempt to flee.
The officer leaps from his horse and grabs Lavin, knocking him to the ground beside a bush and completing the arrest.
Lavin was subsequently searched, and law enforcement officers confiscated 30 packets of crack cocaine.
A follow-up investigation at a location resulted in the retrieval of a second electric bicycle.
Lavin was eventually found guilty of having crack cocaine with the intention of supplying it, possessing illicit property, and driving without a valid license or insurance.
On Monday, Lavin from Middlesbrough received a two-year suspended sentence at Teesside Crown Court.
Sergeant John Sproson from the Cleveland Police stated, “We will employ every available resource in our battle against Class A drugs in Middlesbrough.”
Using the drone and other methods, we will keep taking class A drugs off the streets of Middlesbrough and confiscate any illegal bikes that help dealers in their unlawful activities.
