Regarding the Democratic Party of Korea’s convention on August 17, the vote counts among members with voting rights in Jeju and Incheon indicated that Kim Min-seok was ahead of Jung Chung-rae in both areas.
Previously, when aggregating data from Chungcheong, Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam, and Jeju·Incheon, Kim Min-seok came in first with 45.41%, followed by Jung Chung-rae with 44.57%, and Song Young-gil with 10.03%.
In the race for Supreme Council member positions, Choi Min-hee, representing the pro-Cheong faction, secured 21.04%, while Park Seon-won from the pro-Myung faction came in second with 16.8%. Han Min-su, also from the pro-Cheong faction, received 14.45%, followed by Seo Mi-hwa with 14.11%, and Kim Yong of the pro-Myung faction with 12.64%.
Beyond the top positions were Lee Seong-yoon with 11.69%, Lim Mi-ae at 5.99%, and Kim Young-ho with 3.29%.
The combined data from Jeju and Incheon indicated Kim Min-seok received 47.75%, Jung Chung-rae 42.08%, and Song Young-gil 10.17%.
In Jeju, the results for the party leader candidates were: Jung Chung-rae received 6,625 votes (39.89%), Kim Min-seok obtained 8,742 votes (52.64%), and Song Young-gil garnered 1,240 votes (7.47%).
In Incheon, Jung Chung-rae obtained 13,237 votes (43.27%), whereas Kim Min-seok gained 13,795 votes (45.09%).
Following the primary, Jung Chung-rae addressed journalists and stated, “It is genuinely a significant relief that I lost by this close margin today. Almost all media and broadcasts are celebrating the two candidates (Kim Min-seok and Song Young-gil) with a ratio of almost 9 to 1. I am confident that in the Honam region, as well as in Seoul and Gyeonggi, you will definitely bring about a change.”
