Lee Kang-in, who joined the Spanish top team Atletico (AT) Madrid, said, “I will put in 120%, not just 100%, for the team.”

Lee Kang-in (25) made these comments at a press event held on August 8 at Mokdong Stadium in Seoul, just before the 2026 Coupang Play Series game against Manchester City from England, stating, “The past three years at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were a period of significant development while playing with top-tier players,” and continued, “I’m excited to be part of Atletico, a major club I’ve looked up to since my childhood.”

The primary factor behind his move was the strong interest shown by the club and manager Diego Simeone. Lee stated, “The club and manager’s genuine eagerness to bring me in deeply touched me,” and added, “As a team that consistently strives for the championship, I aim to grow more and win numerous titles.”

His latest jersey number is 7, representing the top player. Although he mentioned that players such as Diego Forlán and Antoine Griezmann have previously worn the number, Lee stated, “I know there are many outstanding players who have worn No. 7,” but highlighted, “What’s more important than the number is how I can support the team and get better.” He further said, “I believe I am a player who is determined to improve. I constantly think about how to deliver a better performance at every moment.”

Atletico Madrid’s coach, Diego Simeone, also showed great hopes for Lee. He stated, “Lee Kang-in is a dedicated and modest player,” and “He is precisely what Atletico requires. I will assist him in fully utilizing his strengths and talents.”

Lee stated, “I have consistently competed solely for triumph,” and “I aim to be a player that brings delight and joy to Atletico supporters.”

Atletico Madrid is set to compete against Manchester City in the ‘2026 Coupang Play Series Second Round’ at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on August 9 at 8 p.m.
