A high-ranking police official was called in for inquiry on the 7th following his involvement in destroying and throwing away his son’s mobile device, which held proof of the son’s unauthorized recording of a female teacher’s body. The Jeonbuk Provincial Police Department announced on the 7th, “We carried out a suspect interrogation this morning concerning Senior Superintendent A, who is accused of destroying evidence by breaking his son’s phone used for illegal recordings, along with his wife.”
Senior Officer A is being accused of damaging and throwing away his son’s mobile phone following the incident in May when the high school student was found secretly recording parts of his homeroom teacher’s body. Ms. B, his wife, who was there when the phone was destroyed, is also suspected of destroying evidence.
The Jeonju Wansan Police Station, which looked into the unauthorized filming incident following a report from a teacher, sent the son to prosecutors last month for allegedly violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (including attempted filming with a camera). At that time, the officers conducting the investigation did not confiscate the mobile phone, as the suspect had admitted guilt, and they passed the case on to the prosecutors.
Allegations of evidence tampering against Senior Superintendent A surfaced during a national police probe into incidents involving police relatives, following the revelation of the ‘Jang Yoon-gi investigation cover-up allegations.’ Lee Jae-young, director of the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency, mentioned at a press conference on the 4th, “We will conduct a comprehensive examination not only into the evidence destruction but also into any potential coordination with the investigative department.”
