The River Valley Group has reasserted its dedication to safeguarding Zimbabwe’s liberation history following a significant donation for this year’s Heroes Day celebrations at the Heroes Acre in Tongogara, Shurugwi.

The mining and land development firm provided catering services, tents, and a public address system for the Midlands province commemorations, and also contributed over 1,000 liters of fuel to traditional leaders, government representatives, and security agencies.

The group also paid tribute to the widows of freedom fighters, traditional leaders, and chosen officials by presenting them with commemorative t-shirts, caps, flowers, and food baskets. Smelly Dube, CEO of River Valley Group, stated that the company viewed its involvement as a national duty rather than just a corporate contribution.

“We are simply fulfilling our national responsibility by providing this financial and material support, as we aim to honor those who struggled for our freedom, and this is something we will not compromise on,” stated Dube.

She mentioned that the company continues to be dedicated to backing national initiatives, especially in areas where it is active.

“We are always pleased to collaborate with other businesses and groups during national events such as this, as we are a company deeply connected to communities, particularly here in Shurugwi where we carry out mining and land development activities,” she added.

The group chairman, Mncedisi Dube, who was unable to be present at the commemorations, stated that the company’s annual tradition stems from appreciation for the individuals whose efforts contributed to Zimbabwe’s independence.

“The River Valley Group’s survival is due to the efforts of both our current and deceased heroes. This yearly act is our modest way of expressing gratitude for the groundwork they created for our success,” he stated.

The River Valley Group has established its involvement in Heroes Day celebrations as a yearly event, integrating the effort into its larger corporate social responsibility strategy and dedication to the communities it serves.
