Karoline Leavitt, 28, the White House Press Secretary commonly known as the “voice” of U.S. President Donald Trump, is set to resign from her role by the end of this month. Leavitt, who recently returned to work following the birth of her second child in May, said, “I felt I couldn’t balance being the best mother to my two young children and carrying out the responsibilities of a White House Press Secretary.” As the youngest individual to hold the position of White House Press Secretary in U.S. history, Leavitt is anticipated to remain an external advisor to President Trump after leaving the White House.
On the 12th, President Trump shared on Truth Social, “Karoline Leavitt, an outstanding White House Press Secretary and one of my most reliable advisors, is leaving her position at the end of this month to focus more on her young children and family.” He stated, “I completely understand and support this choice,” and noted, “Karoline will now serve as one of my key external advisors and a prominent figure in the Republican Party,” pledging to collaborate for success in the November midterm elections. President Trump commended Leavitt, calling her “one of the finest White House Press Secretaries ever.” A replacement has not been officially announced yet.
Leavitt also posted on social media the same day, “Serving as White House Press Secretary for the past year and a half was a lifelong honor and adventure,” while recognizing the difficulties of managing work and parenting after having a child. She stated, “Bringing a new child into the world while working in one of the most demanding roles in the world was the most fulfilling yet most challenging period of my life. After giving birth to my daughter and going back to the White House, I came to understand in my heart that I could not be the best mother my two young children require and give the continuous time, energy, and focus needed for the position of White House Press Secretary.” She referred to her resignation as a “bittersweet choice.”
