The game The Binding of Isaac is getting a re-release for current-generation consoles, which includes online multiplayer features, and developer Nicalis clearly isn’t hesitant to launch it alongside other titles.GTA 6.
In case the cramped autumn release scheduledidn’t make it clear, many publishers are fearful of GTA 6.
Although some view the currently calm November period as an ideal time for new releases, it’s only suitable for very small-scale releases, such as aretro Barbie game collectionand a Switch 2 version ofMetaphor: ReFantazio. Although Devolver Digital haskept promisingto release a game on the same day as GTA 6, even though it hasn’t been officially announced yet.
It seems that independent publisher and developer Nicalis is not at all deterred by Rockstar’s highly anticipated sequel, as it has revealed an enhanced re-release of The Binding Of Isaac set for November 19.
If you haven’t heard of it before, The Binding Of Isaac is a 2011 roguelike game created by the same developer asMewgenicsand was highly recognized during that period, when the idea of independent games was still quite novel.
Originally released for PCs, it later had a console remake titled The Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth in 2014, and has since seen multiple expansions. The most recent one, Repentance+, introduced online multiplayer in 2024, although it was exclusively available on PC.
Currently, Nicalis has revealed that this content will be available on consoles through a separate re-release of the game called The Binding Of Isaac: Repentance + Online.
A short YouTube preview does not display any gameplay, but the video’s description states that this version contains the complete game, all expansions, all post-launch updates, and the new online co-op that allows up to four players.
It will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, but only the Switch 2 edition will be sold in physical form. Owners of PlayStation and Xbox will have to purchase the game online.
This also means anyone who already owns The Binding Of Isaac on consoles will have to pay twice.
