Im Seong-jae, 28 years old, did not manage to qualify for the PGA Tour’s playoff final for the first time in eight years. His streak of consecutive participations also came to an end after seven years.
I shot a 1-over-par 71, featuring four bogeys, one eagle, and one birdie, during the fourth round of the BMW Championship (Par 70, Bellerive Country Club, St. Louis, U.S.), the second event in the PGA Tour playoffs, which took place on the 24th.
Finishing with a score of 8-under par and sharing 10th place overall, Im is ranked 37th in the final FedEx Cup points list, falling just short of the top 30 that qualify for the Tour Championship. Although he moved up from 40th prior to the event, he missed the cutoff by a few positions.
He had been tied for fourth after two rounds and moved up to solo seventh after three, keeping a chance to dramatically qualify for the final. His projected FedEx Cup ranking was 28th and 30th, respectively.
However, I lost one stroke on the final day, which caused my ranking to drop and resulted in fewer points. Meanwhile, players such as Robert Mackintyre moved up, leaving Im outside the qualifying threshold.
Kim Joo-hyung, who is 29th in the FedEx Cup standings, barely made it to the final. He ended up tied for 28th at 3-under par after improving his score by two strokes, moving down from 26th but still staying within the top 30.
Kim Si-woo finished tied for 33rd at 2-under par, and he earned his place in the Tour Championship by staying in fifth position in the FedEx Cup standings. Although he moved down one position from fourth, it had no impact on his qualification.
Wyndham Clark (U.S.) secured his win with a score of 17-under-par, winning $3.6 million (about 4.99 billion South Korean won). He also moved up to third place in the FedEx Cup standings.
