A Nairobi senator, Edwin Sifuna, was given a copy of the late vice president Michael Kijana Wamalwa’s book, “My Country First,” when DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa and his niece visited his office on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Sifuna, one of the leaders of the Linda Mwananchi movement, provided information about the visit on X, thanking the Wamalwa family for what he referred to as their role in the country’s history.

He mentioned that he wished both parties would “keep moving forward together to make Mike’s vision for the nation a reality.”

Inscription on a book and its political importance

Published by Afritell Publishers and titled “The Story of Michael ‘Kijana’ Wamalwa, Kenya’s 8th Vice President,” the biography came with a handwritten note dated August 25, 2026.

The engraving, directed towards Sifuna, stated: “May this inspire you in your journey towards the prominent position.”

The wording captured instant focus due to the political environment involving Sifuna, who has emerged as a key player in the opposition leading up to the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna, Wamalwa coalition and the 2027 election race

The gathering holds greater importance. During a recent funeral in Kakamega, Sifuna was openly encouraged to support Wamalwa before the 2027 elections, showing that discussions about forming alliances among opposition groups have already begun.

The Linda Mwananchi movement, led by Sifuna, is becoming more popular, and opposition leaders have consistently expressed their desire to come together under one candidate to contest President William Ruto in 2027.

Furthermore, Sifuna’s public visibility has significantly increased in recent months, and his welcoming of the Wamalwa family to his office, along with the inscription’s clear mention of presidential aspirations, supports the idea that political groupings in western Kenya are starting to form much earlier than expected before the 2027 election season.

Meanwhile, the visit comes after a tense moment on the 23rd anniversary of Kijana on Sunday, August 23, when former president Uhuru Kenyatta named Sifuna as one of the possible presidential candidates, prompting applause from the audience.

Uhuru rejected claims that he was supporting the Linda Mwananchi initiative and called on politicians to promote peace, mentioning a violent event in Homa Bay district that caused fatalities, injuries, and the burning of vehicles associated with the movement’s leaders.

He further mentioned that he has no desire to pursue any political position.
