The Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state administration to take immediate action in response to the diphtheria epidemic, which is said to have resulted in the deaths of over 50 children in Rano Local Government Area.

The representative of Rano Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Malami, raised the issue in a motion concerning an urgent matter of public significance that was brought before the House.

He mentioned that the outbreak had resulted in the deaths of more than 50 children in the Rurum A, Rurum B, and Sabuwar Kaura communities, which are located within Rurum Ward of the Rano Local Government Area.

Hon. Malami added that the local government’s health department had already started emergency measures, with assistance from the legislator in supplying medications.

He expressed appreciation to the members of the House for backing the appeal for immediate governmental action to tackle the issue.
