LG Electronics has begun securing overseas research and development (R&D) talent to lead future growth businesses such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and mobility.
LG Electronics announced on the 31st that it held the “North America Tech Conference,” an event inviting global talent, in San Francisco on the 29th (local time). The event was attended by approximately 100 individuals, including Ph.D. researchers and professionals from major U.S. universities and research institutions such as Stanford University, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and UC Berkeley, as well as R&D experts working at local big tech companies and startups.
From LG Electronics, attendees included Lyu Jae-cheol, Chief Executive Officer (CEO); Kim Byung-hoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO); Song Sang-ho, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO); and technical leaders from key sectors such as AI, software, and robotics.
CEO Lyu, who joined the company as an engineer with a mechanical engineering background and rose to CEO through roles as a business unit head and division head, shared his career journey and stated, “LG Electronics is a company where talent with technical expertise can grow into core leaders who drive the company’s future.”
Beyond its existing core businesses, including home appliances and OLED TVs, LG Electronics is fostering heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), mobility, and physical AI as future growth pillars. The company is advancing robotics businesses that combine robot platforms, robot intelligence, and data technology, as well as AI data center cooling solutions and intelligent platforms for AI-based and software-defined vehicles.
LG Electronics highlighted its strengths in the physical AI business, including manufacturing and production data accumulated over decades, lifestyle space data from hundreds of millions of products worldwide, and technological capabilities in HVAC and automotive components. It also cited its competitive edge in manufacturing over 1 billion key components and collaboration capabilities with group affiliates and global big tech companies. CEO Lyu emphasized, “Ultimately, talent changes the future,” and added, “We will create meaningful change together with talent who fear no greater challenges.”
LG Electronics plans to hold recruitment briefings sequentially at major North American universities, including MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Michigan, Purdue University, and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, starting from September 9th.
