People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said on the 29th regarding President Lee Jae Myung’s rejection of the Chief Justice’s nomination proposal for a justice: “We will fight with our shirts off for the impeachment of Lee Jae Myung and the resumption of his trial.”

Representative Jang stated this on his Facebook page today, borrowing from a past remark by Democratic Party of Korea Representative Park Ji-won: “The People Power Party must not remain silent in the face of anti-separation-of-powers and anti-democratic actions. It is the People Power Party’s duty to fight with our shirts off against anti-democratic and anti-separation-of-powers actions.”

Earlier, Representative Park had stated in a media interview in June 2023, when there were speculations that then-President Yoon Suk-yeol would postpone the nomination proposal, “It is the Democratic Party’s duty to fight with our shirts off against anti-democratic and anti-separation-of-powers actions.”

In response, Representative Jang stated, “Summarizing Representative Park’s remarks, the request for re-nomination is an unconstitutional and anti-separation-of-powers act that destroys democracy and the constitution. Therefore, it is a ‘grounds for impeachment’ of the president.”

The president announced the day before that he decided not to submit the appointment consent motion to the National Assembly for Son Bong-kie, the Presiding Judge of Daegu District Court, who was nominated by Chief Justice Jo Hee-de, and requested the re-nomination of a justice candidate.
