Prime Minister Han Seong-sook visited the Jangwi 14 District redevelopment project site in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, on the 29th and said, “We will swiftly push forward comprehensive support, including relocation costs, financial assistance, etc., to ensure follow-up projects proceed.”
After receiving a report on the progress of the Jangwi 14 District redevelopment project, Prime Minister Han inspected the site on foot alongside Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Nam-geun, Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro, Vice Minister for Land and Infrastructure Kim Yi-tak, and others.
At the site, Prime Minister Han said, “I feel that the 18-year delay in the redevelopment project was too long, and I would like to express my condolences to the residents. We will do our best to realize the residents’ desire to live in a better residential environment.”
He added, “This is not about Seoul’s issues or the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s issues. The key is to supply homes to residents quickly,” and instructed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to “closely coordinate with Seoul.”
Prime Minister Han also stated, “We are considering institutional improvements to transfer the authority to designate reconstruction and redevelopment zones with fewer than 500 households to district heads,” and emphasized, “We will do our best to continuously listen to delays and difficulties in projects and resolve them swiftly.”
This inspection was the second on-site visit following the Prime Minister’s visit to the Incheon Gyeyang District housing supply site in the third-phase Incheon New Town on August 19.
Earlier, on August 14, the day after the government announced its August 13 real estate measures, Prime Minister Han presided over an inter-ministerial rapid housing supply inspection meeting and said, “I will personally visit construction sites every week to check progress.”
