MLB (US professional baseball) Atlanta Braves’ Kim Ha-seong recorded three hits in a single game for the first time in approximately a year. His season batting average, which had stagnated below 0.100, also surpassed the 0.100 mark.
Kim Ha-seong started as the ninth batter (shortstop) in the MLB game against the Washington Nationals held in Washington, D.C., USA, on September 2 (Korean time). He demonstrated sharp hitting with three hits in three at-bats. In his first at-bat of the top of the third inning, trailing 0-1 with a runner on first and no outs, he targeted starting pitcher Jake Irvin and produced a scoring opportunity with a line drive single between the second baseman and shortstop.
In the top of the fifth inning, with a runner on first and no outs, he again drove a bullet-like single past the third baseman. As the leadoff hitter in the top of the eighth, he added another single that dropped in front of the left fielder. The ball was a high-quality hit reaching 175 km/h. However, despite Kim Ha-seong’s contributions in creating opportunities every time he stepped to the plate, the Braves lost 5-9.
This marked Kim Ha-seong’s first three-hit game since September 15 of last year against the Houston Astros, ending a 353-day drought. With three hits added on this day, he achieved double-digit hits for the season (10 hits). His season batting average rose from 0.081 to 0.112.
Kim Ha-seong, the 2023 MLB National League Utility Gold Glove winner, also excelled defensively. In the second inning, he slid to catch a hit-and-run ball by Abimilek Ortiz and made a seated throw to record an out.
