In 2022, 18-year-old Lim Yun-chan made a meteoric appearance on the final stage of the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. There, world-renowned female conductor Marin Alsop conducted the orchestra, and Lim Yun-chan performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 (hereinafter referred to as “Rach 3”) to claim a historic victory.
Four years later, the two musicians reunite in Seoul with the same repertoire. Chosun Membership annual members are invited to a legendary stage that no classical music fan should miss. This is an opportunity to directly experience Lim Yun-chan, famous for “ticket wars,” performing “Rach 3” for the first time domestically. Thirty Chosun Membership annual members will be selected by lottery to receive one S-seat ticket (worth 380,000 Korean won) each. ◇First Domestic Performance of ‘Rach 3’…Exclusive Preview by a Professional Journalist Before the Concert

On June 17, 2022, Lim Yun-chan, who at just 18 years old perfectly performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3—a piece said to “can only be played by someone who is mad”—made a meteoric debut in the music world. After his final performance at the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, conductor Marin Alsop, who led the orchestra, wiped tears from her eyes on the podium and embraced him. His explosive musicality, commanding performance, and the tears shed by world-renowned female conductor Marin Alsop on the podium left a strong impression on music fans worldwide.
Lim Yun-chan and Marin Alsop will perform Rach 3 for Korean classical music fans. Thirty Chosun Membership annual members will receive complimentary S-seat tickets worth 380,000 Korean won. This marks the first time Lim Yun-chan will perform this repertoire domestically. The concert will take place on November 6 at the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul.
In the first half of the concert, Lim Yun-chan will perform Rach 3, followed by Samuel Barber’s Symphony No. 1 and Igor Stravinsky’s *The Firebird Suite (1919)* in the second half. The orchestra accompanying him is the Philadelphia Orchestra of the United States, conducted by Marin Alsop. Although the conductor and piece are the same as in 2022 when Lim won the competition, this performance offers a chance to savor a more deeply interpreted rendition.
