Naver has launched its ‘Hiking-Themed Weather’ service in time for the full-fledged autumn foliage season.
Naver announced on the 8th, “We launched the service last month, which provides ultra-short-term forecasts for 301 major mountains nationwide,” adding, “By providing weather information based on coordinates rather than nearby administrative districts, the accuracy has been improved.”
The service applies the ‘Hiking Course Weather’ feature, which reprocesses hiking course data owned by Naver Map according to hourly weather forecasts. By selecting a hiking course and departure time, users can check changes in temperature, wind, and precipitation for each segment in advance based on the expected hiking duration. This is the first service of its kind in the country.
Additionally, the service provides ‘Seasonal Scenery’ information that guides users on the timing of autumn foliage and blooming seasons. Users can check the ‘Seasonal Scenery’ within the Naver Weather screen to help plan hiking or outings. Kim Hye-jin, a leader at Naver, said, “Following baseball stadiums, theme parks, ski resorts, soccer fields, and golf courses, we have started providing weather information themed around hiking, which sees continuous demand throughout all four seasons,” and added, “We plan to add ‘sea fishing’ information within this year.”
